An air-conditioning check assesses the system. A regas involves refrigerant service work. A repair addresses an identified fault. The right choice depends on the findings and your vehicle’s system.
Explain the symptoms before the assessment. Tell the workshop if the air is warm, airflow has changed or cooling varies during a drive. Mention previous repairs or recent regassing.
Ask which checks are included and what further investigation would cost. A low check-only price may cover less work than a complete service package.
Confirm the refrigerant type, eligible vehicles, included quantity and service procedure. A vehicle must receive the correct work for its system; a cheap package is unsuitable if its conditions do not cover that vehicle.
Ask whether the advertised price includes refrigerant or only labour. Also establish the assessment charge if a fault means the system cannot proceed to a regas.
Refrigerant work does not replace a failed component or repair a leak. If a fault is identified, ask what needs repair, what the quote includes and which checks follow the work.
Regulated refrigerant work requires the appropriate authorisations and technician licence. Australian Refrigeration Council licence information.
