If a vehicle does not pass a roadworthy inspection, the next step is to understand the findings and the work required. Discuss the report with the tester before arranging repairs or assuming another inspection is included in the original fee.
Ask which items did not meet the applicable requirements. If a description is unclear, have it explained before requesting a repair quote.
Keep the inspection information with the vehicle’s records. If more than one person is involved in arranging repairs, make sure they are working from the same findings.
An inspection fee and a repair quote cover different things unless an agreed package says otherwise. Clarify the proposed parts, labour, price and authorisation process.
Repairing one reported concern does not establish that every item has been resolved. Review the whole report with the workshop.
Check the applicable timeframe, who will reinspect the vehicle and what fee applies. Current Victorian guidance describes reinspection arrangements, including a 14-day provision. Ask the tester how that applies to your booking and the remaining charges. VicRoads selling guidance.
Do not assume that a reinspection is free or that delaying it leaves the same arrangements in place.
Contact our Thomastown workshop with the vehicle details and inspection findings. We can discuss the appropriate enquiry for the work you need.
